Yoga as a Lifestyle
In the past, yoga was the preserve of a small group of expatriates and South Asian Devotees. That is not the case today. Yoga is practiced from the slums of Kibera to the suburbs.
It has created job opportunities with teachers teaching the art earning a salary of Ksh 10,000 to Ksh 26,000 a month. It has also become a popular activity among the youth after football. There has also been an increase of yoga studios over the past few years.
Recently, the UN International Yoga Celebration was held in our motherland with organizations such as Art of Living, Africa Yoga Project, Lamu Yoga Festival, partaking in the celebrations. With such organizations, not to mention BIDCO and other non-profit organizations, Yoga is indeed alive and kicking in Kenya.
Basically, a platform is provided for Kenyans to practice, learn and promote Yoga.
