Inclusive Agribusiness

Bidco Africa believes in inclusive growth, consequently it is offering small scale farmers opportunities for partnership in oilseed production (soybeans and sunflower).

The company currently works with 30,000 farmers across East Africa who it has contracted to supply it, with oil seeds (soya beans and sunflower) for use in manufacturing its fats and edible oil products.

Bidco Africa offers farmers a ready market for their products at competitive market prices, and in turn the company secures the raw materials needed to meet market demand. This arrangement has helped to raise the living standards of small-scale farmers by assuring them of a sustainable and ready market for their produce.

Social Responsible Corporate (SRC)

Bidco has chosen to be a part of several projects that lend a hand to younger generations, and enhance growth in business. This includes supporting the Tony Elumelu Foundation and Starehe Girls Education Fund.

In February 2013, Bidco picked 10 brilliant Kenyan girls from all over the country, and committed to fully funding their high school education at Starehe Girls Centre. The girls, from poor backgrounds, are also offered academic and moral mentorship.

Environmental Consciousness

Bidco has implemented a robust environmental management policy that includes complying with all NEMA (National Environmental Management Authority) standards on Environment, Self-generation of Power and Steam (Cogen) using biomass, Monitoring and Control of Flue gas emissions from Steam Boiler.

In addition, all of the company’s liquid waste is channeled into the effluent treatment plant where it is chemically treated to conform to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) standards of biological oxygen demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD).

Water used in the plant is also channeled to the Effluent treatment plant where it is treated. Once treated the water is disposed off to the Thika Sub-County sewerage system with no pollutants.

Bidco Africa uses biomass (cashew nuts shells, macadamia shells, saw dust, coffee husks) to generate steam and power in its cogeneration plant as a substitute for furnace oil which pollutes the environment.
