Bidco Africa together with other partners including Thika Water and Sewerage Company (THIWASCO) and the County Government of Kiambu has initiated a hand-washing drive within Thika and its environs in efforts to help stop further spread of the Corona Virus.

In efforts to educate the public on the need to keep their hands always clean, as one of the ways advised on controlling further spread of the Corona Virus, Bidco Africa together with its partners has initiated a hand-washing drive that will run for the next two months.

With no cases of infection reported so far in Kiambu County, the drive aims to create awareness and educate the public on the need to be cautious and on the lookout as they go about their business. The move has seen the partners strategically map out high traffic areas within Thika and its environs where mobile handwashing units and permanent handwash points have been put up to help users clean their hands from time to time. These include bus stops within the town, open air markets, Thika Level 5 Hospital and other business operation areas.

The hand-washing drive is a further boost to the initiatives Bidco Africa has put in place to ensure safety of all its stakeholders including aggressive awareness through communication to all publics, staff shift reorganization to minimize numbers within its premises, proper hand-washing and sanitization points across all departments and an ongoing activity in estates within Nairobi dubbed ‘Cheza Clean’ where free bars of soap are being issued to the residents.

For the two months, Bidco Africa will ensure there is adequate hand-wash to be used in the more than 50 high traffic points identified while THIWASCO will provide clean water to replenish water in all the mobile handwashing units provided by Bidco.

Speaking during the flag-off at THIWASCO premises, the Deputy County Commissioner of Kiambu County Mr. Douglas Mutai Mureithi, who was the official guest applauded the move, noting that it will go a long way in concerted efforts to stop further spread of the virus in the country.

“As a company, we aim to enhance Happy, Healthy Living among all our stakeholders. The Bidco Board and Management continue to invest in resources and initiatives that will positively contribute to stopping further spread of the virus. We are in full support of the activities and measures in place and will not relent till we see this come to a complete eradication and control,” said Chris Diaz, the Bidco Africa Group Director.

Such public-private partnerships like this of Bidco and THIWASCO are welcome and truly affirm the commitment to come together during such tough times. Coupled with other initiatives of the national and county governments, I ask all players to unite, cooperate and we shall overcome this pandemic,

said Mr. Mutai.

Despite constraints in the production capacity at THIWASCO, the Chairman Mr. Joseph Wakimani assured the partners that priority will be given to the drive to ensure its success which at the end of the day, contributes to the safety and well-being of the people within the county and entire nation.
